Pune: Maharashtra Police Mega City Action Committee agitates in front of Police Commissionerate, demands registration of case under MOFA (Video)

Maharashtra Police Mega City Protest

Pune: The Maharashtra Police Mega City (MPMC) Action Committee on Thursday (June 27) agitated in front of the Pune Police Commissionerate demanding justice.

Crores of rupees have been collected from police officers and personnel to build the Police Megacity housing project in Pune. However, not a single member has got a flat in it even 15 years after it was launched.

Over 5,000 serving and former police employees and officials have been cheated. The MPMC Action Committee demanded that a case should be registered against the construction company under the Maharashtra Ownership Flats (Regulation of the Promotion of Construction, Sale, Management and Transfer) Act (MOFA), 1963.

The Commissioner of Police, Pune, through a circular, announced the housing project for the Maharashtra Police at Lohegaon in Pune in 2009. The circular stated that flats would be made available at affordable rates. Seven-storey buildings with a lift facility would be built. Mumbai-based BE Billimoria developer was chosen to construct the project. The plan was to be completed in three years.

In 2017, the members unilaterally decided to increase the floors of buildings to 14. A final agreement was signed for flats in 60 buildings with the builder. Permission for only 36 buildings has been taken from the PMRDA while permission has not been taken for the remaining 24. Rs 278 crore has been withdrawn as advances from the organisation since 2009 by furnishing false project status reports. In reality, there are only 10-12 skeleton-like structures at the site.

According to the conditions in the agreement, possession of the flats was to be given within three years. But it has not happened. Thus, the contract has been violated. When contacted, the organisation and the builder are not replying to member queries. Later, members lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police and at the Vimantal Police Station in 2023 and 2024. However, an offence has not been registered yet.

The MPMC Action Committee has demanded that a case should be registered under the MOFA against the contractor, for which the agitation was staged in front of the Police Commissionerate in Pune.
