Prime Minister Modi Launches ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ Campaign to Honor Martyrs

New Delhi, 30th July 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the commencement of the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at paying tribute to the brave martyrs of the nation, in the lead-up to Independence Day. During his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Modi highlighted the significance of the ‘Amrit Mohatsav’ and the upcoming August 15 celebrations, emphasizing the importance of remembering and honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the country.

The primary objective of the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign is to cherish the memory of the valiant martyrs who have selflessly laid down their lives for the nation. Various programs and events will be organized throughout India to commemorate these brave personalities. Additionally, special inscriptions will be installed in numerous village panchayats across the country to perpetuate the legacy of these extraordinary individuals.

A significant highlight of the campaign is the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’, wherein soil from 7,500 ‘Kalash’, representing villages and corners of India, along with plants from different regions, will be collected and carried to Delhi. This symbolic journey will culminate in the establishment of an ‘Amrit Vatika’ close to the National War Memorial.

During his radio address, Prime Minister Modi commended the government’s progressive changes to the Haj policy, which now enables over 4,000 women to undertake the pilgrimage without a ‘Mehram’ or male companion. This transformative step has empowered Muslim women, who were previously not permitted to perform Haj without a ‘Mehram’. Modi expressed gratitude to the Saudi Government for their cooperation in implementing these changes and shared heartfelt letters from Muslim women expressing their appreciation.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the recent repatriation of several precious artefacts to India from the US. Amidst natural calamities that have affected the nation in recent days, Modi drew attention to the resilience and collective efforts of the people, highlighting their commitment to water conservation and the remarkable plantation of 30 crore saplings in Uttar Pradesh in a single day, exemplifying public participation and environmental awareness.

The ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign stands as a powerful testament to the nation’s gratitude and respect for its martyrs, and it serves as a call to all citizens to come together in cherishing the spirit of sacrifice and dedication exhibited by these brave souls who fought for the nation’s freedom and prosperity.
