PMC Employee Arrested for Accepting Bribe; ACB Initiates Case

Pune, August 23, 2023: The Pune division of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken swift action by apprehending an employee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for his involvement in demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a driver. The individual arrested in this case has been identified as Pandurang Sadhu Lonkar, a 57-year-old employee of PMC.

The incident came to light following a complaint lodged by a contractual driver who works at the vehicle depot of PMC’s Gultekdi. The complaint alleged that Lonkar, who operates within the same depot, had solicited Rs 4,000 from the driver in exchange for allotting work. Faced with this unlawful demand, the driver took the matter to the ACB officials.

Upon verifying the authenticity of the complaint, the ACB team took decisive action by setting a trap to apprehend the accused while he was in the process of accepting the bribe. The arrest was made promptly, and a case has been registered against Lonkar under the relevant sections of the law at Khadak Police Station.

The authorities are now engaged in an ongoing investigation to delve deeper into the matter and ascertain the extent of any possible irregularities. This incident underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to tackle corruption and uphold ethical conduct within government organizations.

The Pune division of the ACB has been actively addressing instances of bribery and corruption. As of August this year, the division ranked as the second-highest in Maharashtra for the number of reported bribery cases.
