No E-Visa Facility at Mopa Airport Puts International Tourists at Risk of Deportation

In a development that could potentially impact Goa’s tourism industry, the Manohar International Airport (MIA), popularly known as Mopa Airport, has introduced changes that might concern international tourists. The airport has decided not to provide an e-visa facility to incoming international tourists. This news arrives just two months before the start of the tourism season and at a time when a significant number of flights have been redirected from Dabolim Airport to Mopa Airport.

Absence of E-Visa Facility at Mopa Airport According to an official statement reported by The Goan, Mopa Airport will not offer e-visa services to international visitors. The e-visa option will exclusively remain available at Goa’s Dabolim Airport. Air India reportedly informed that guests arriving at Mopa Airport (GOX) will not have access to the e-visa facility meant for passengers arriving in India. The e-visa privilege will be applicable solely to arrivals at Dabolim Airport (GOI) and not at Mopa Airport (GOX).

The Goan further reported that immigration authorities will deport any passenger arriving at Mopa Airport (GOX) with an e-visa back on the same flight. This poses a significant challenge for travelers due to the visa complications arising from this change.

Legislative Concerns and Response During a session of the Zero Hour, GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai raised concerns about the visa issue. He highlighted that Air India flights from the UK were being redirected to Mopa Airport, which lacked the e-visa facility. Additionally, Sardesai stated that passengers arriving at Mopa Airport were being charged an extra visa fee due to the absence of the e-visa service. He emphasized that this issue had been ongoing for the past three days.

In response to the concerns raised, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the House on August 8 that he would address the e-visa matter and find a solution, as reported by The Times of India.

Impact on Tourism and Travelers The lack of an e-visa facility at Mopa Airport presents a substantial challenge for international tourists who intend to explore Goa. With e-visa services limited to Dabolim Airport, this development emphasizes the importance of prompt attention from relevant authorities. The need to ensure a seamless and enjoyable journey for travelers looking to experience the vibrant allure of Goa becomes paramount.

The decision to exclude the e-visa provision at Mopa Airport will likely impact the convenience and accessibility for tourists arriving at this significant airport, raising concerns about potential disruptions to travel plans and experiences. As the tourism season approaches, stakeholders are hopeful that a solution will be reached to mitigate these challenges and uphold Goa’s reputation as a sought-after travel destination.
