New Pune Airport terminal built by spending Rs 475 crore to open soon

Pune: Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol has said that the newly-built terminal at the Pune International Airport will soon be thrown open to passengers as the CISF has provided necessary manpower for the security purpose after the Union Home Ministry’s approval.

The new facility has been built after considering a growing number of passengers at the airport. It was also inaugurated some months ago. However, it could not be used due to the non-availability of CISF manpower. Now, it will soon start operating.

Minister Mohol said, “Our efforts to get the new terminal operational have borne fruit and 222 personnel at seven posts for the Pune airport have been sanctioned. This has taken the number of CISF personnel to 715. The required manpower has been sanctioned and there is no hurdle in the way of the new terminal now. We are trying to open it for passengers as soon as possible.”

The new terminal

Total area – 52,000 sq m

Annual passenger capacity – 90 lakh

Four-wheeler parking capacity – 1,000

Passenger lifts – 15

Escalators – 8

Total expenditure – Rs 475 crore
