In a successful operation, the Pune City Police have nabbed five individuals hailing from Jharkhand in the Hadapsar area of Pune. The culprits were found in possession of 52 stolen mobile phones. All the accused had traveled to Pune with the intention of stealing mobile phones during the Ganesh festival.

The mobile thieves executed their spree on September 23, snatching a total of 20 mobile phones from various locations in Hadapsar and other parts of the city. The five individuals apprehended by the Hadapsar Police have been identified as Shyam Kumar Sanjay Ram (25), Vishal Kumar Ganga Mahato (21), Badal Kumar Motilal Mohato (25), and Vicky Kumar Ganga Mahato (19). Two additional suspects, Gopi Mahato and Rahul Mahato, managed to evade capture and fled the city on September 25.

Of the arrested suspects, 12 stolen mobile phones were found in their immediate possession, while an additional 40 phones were seized from the residence where they had been staying in Pune. It has been discovered that the thieves meticulously planned their mobile heist to coincide with the crowded festivities of the Ganesh festival. Three of the culprits had convened at Teen Pahad Station before arriving in Pune on September 14 via the Hatia Express.

Further investigations have uncovered that both the apprehended and fugitive suspects have prior criminal records. In particular, one of the accused, Vicky Kumar Ganga Mahato, is a wanted individual in connection with a gang rape case registered in Jharkhand.

The Hadapsar Police have been actively combatting mobile theft cases, culminating in the recent arrests of nine individuals involved in such crimes over the past two days. Altogether, law enforcement has confiscated a total of 72 mobile phones as part of their efforts to curtail mobile theft in the area.
