ITMS System Expected to Go Live on Pune-Mumbai Expressway by October

Pune, 11th August 2023: The Intelligence Traffic Management System (ITMS) project, aimed at enhancing traffic management and safety on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, is in its final stages and is anticipated to become operational from October this year. Managed by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRDC), the project is scheduled for launch on October 15.

With a growing number of accidents occurring on the expressway, the project seeks to improve traffic management and safety through the implementation of advanced technologies and intelligent cameras. This initiative is projected to significantly reduce the occurrence of accidents and is considered the first-of-its-kind in the state.

Under the project, approximately 430 cameras equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities will be strategically placed at 106 locations along the expressway. These intelligent cameras are designed to detect violations committed by vehicles and can identify up to 17 different types of traffic violations. The investment for this project totals Rs 60 Crore and is being executed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

To oversee the ITMS system, a dedicated Command and Control Center (CCC) has been established in Kusgaon. This center will operate around the clock and will be staffed by officials from the Highway Police and Regional Transport Officials (RTO), ensuring constant vigilance and management of the system.

As the launch date approaches, authorities are optimistic that the implementation of the ITMS project will greatly enhance road safety and traffic management on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, making travel safer and more efficient for commuters.
