IMD’s Forecast: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Expected Across India Until October 18

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast that brings news of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in various parts of the country, extending until October 18. This announcement serves as a vital alert for residents and authorities to prepare for potentially adverse weather conditions.

1. Wide-ranging Heavy Rainfall Predicted The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall across multiple states and regions, affecting different areas on various dates. The weather agency anticipates heavy rainfall and snowfall at isolated locations in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on October 15 and 16. This weather event is expected to be significant.

2. Rainfall in Southern Regions Southern states are not exempt from the forecast. On October 15, heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Mahe. These regions should brace themselves for potentially extreme weather conditions.

3. Extending Impact The IMD predicts that parts of Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan may experience light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning until October 16. Central Maharashtra, south Konkan, and Goa are expected to witness similar conditions during the same period.

4. Continuing Rainfall On October 16, heavy rainfall is expected in specific areas, including north Punjab, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, south interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe. Furthermore, on October 17, parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, south interior Karnataka, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Mahe may experience similar weather patterns.

5. Thunderstorms Across the Nation The IMD’s forecast extends to thunderstorms. Until October 18, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected to prevail in several parts of the country. Parts of Kerala and Mahe will experience such conditions until the specified date, with winds reaching speeds of up to 30-40 kmph.

6. Thunderstorms in Multiple Regions On October 15 and 16, thunderstorms with lightning will affect parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, west Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, central Maharashtra, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

7. Extended Thunderstorm Impact On October 17, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, and Karaikal may also experience thunderstorms with lightning.

8. Thunderstorms on October 18 The forecast even extends to October 18, when parts of Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning.

9. Maximum Temperatures Remain Stable Despite the challenging weather conditions, the IMD notes that there are expected to be no significant changes in maximum temperatures across most parts of the country until October 18.
