History TV18 to Air ‘The Evacuation: Operation Ganga’ – A Gripping Tale of a Massive Rescue Mission in Ukraine

June 15, 2023 – History TV18 has announced the launch of its new documentary ‘The Evacuation: Operation Ganga,’ which chronicles one of the largest evacuation operations of the 21st century led by the Narendra Modi-led government in Ukraine.

Narrated by renowned media commentator and Defence Analyst Maroof Raza, the documentary delves into the harrowing experiences of Indian students stranded in war-ravaged Ukraine. It portrays their struggles living in bunkers without basic necessities like food and water, while their anxious parents awaited their safe return.

The film’s narrative juxtaposes the deteriorating situation in Ukraine and the constant fear for life with the unfolding of a massive rescue mission aimed at bringing every Indian student back home. Through compelling footage, firsthand accounts, and unprecedented access, ‘The Evacuation: Operation Ganga’ provides rare insights into the logistics of this mammoth operation and the extraordinary efforts undertaken by the Indian government to establish secure routes for the stranded students.

The Ukraine-Russia conflict, which erupted over a year ago, has had global repercussions as hostilities escalated. For thousands of Indian students trapped in the active war zone, uncertainty and the risk to their lives were constant companions.

‘The Evacuation’ sheds light on the indomitable spirit of India and the unwavering determination of the Indian government to ensure the safe return of its citizens. Leading the humanitarian mission was Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the documentary, Prime Minister Modi discusses the planning of ‘Operation Ganga’ and what it meant to him and the nation.

“In the heart of every Indian lies a profound faith: no matter the challenge, no matter how daunting the circumstance, they know their government stands with them and will bring them back home safely. This isn’t just policy – it is a testament to our humanity. This bond has consistently grown stronger, reflecting the indomitable spirit of our nation,” says PM Modi.

Sharing important insights, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar provides an insider’s perspective on the behind-the-scenes efforts.

Speaking about India’s diplomatic endeavors, Jaishankar shares, “Our relentless efforts extended to neighboring countries like Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and later Moldova, as we sought their cooperation in facilitating the evacuation process from Ukraine. Through diplomatic channels, the Prime Minister engaged with President Putin, securing a cease-fire during the evacuation period and obtaining designated routes for evacuation. While numerous countries struggled to evacuate their citizens with only a few flights, India successfully coordinated 90 flights to safely repatriate Indian students. Our nation’s influential voice continues to play a pivotal role in shaping outcomes on the global stage.”

From the events leading up to the conflict in February 2022 to the outbreak of war and beyond, the documentary provides a detailed account of the operation.

‘The Evacuation: Operation Ganga’ is an original production by History TV18, produced by Colosceum Media.

The film premieres on History TV18 on June 17 at 8 PM.
