From Medic to Civil Servant: Pooja Gupta’s Inspiring Journey to Becoming an IAS Officer

Delhi, India – July 9th, 2023: Pooja Gupta, the daughter of Sub Inspector Rekha Gupta from the Delhi Police, serves as a shining example of the extraordinary potential that can be unleashed through dedication and perseverance. Initially aspiring to become a doctor after completing her 12th standard, Pooja discovered her true calling in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. While pursuing her medical studies, she dedicated herself to preparing for the prestigious UPSC exam.

Pooja’s dedication bore fruit on her first attempt, as she secured a position in the IPS. However, driven by her grandfather’s desire to see her become an IAS officer, she continued her preparation for the Civil Services exam. With relentless determination and unwavering commitment, she finally realized her dream of becoming an IAS officer in the UPSC 2020 examination, securing an exceptional rank of AIR 42.

Pooja’s mother, Rekha Gupta, serves as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Delhi Police, while her father is employed in the private sector. Pooja’s decision to pursue the Civil Services exam was inspired by her deep respect for her mother’s distinguished uniform. Demonstrating her determination, Pooja embarked on her first attempt at the Civil Services Examination in 2018, achieving an exceptional rank of 147.

During her school days, Pooja had the honor of being recognized by the former DCP of Police, an experience that further fueled her aspiration to become an IAS officer. Despite initially pursuing medicine after completing school, Pooja’s dream of becoming an IAS officer remained steadfast. She dedicated herself to achieving this dream through hard work and determination.

Pooja Gupta shared her preparation strategy, highlighting her initial reliance on the internet as a valuable source of guidance. She found insightful conversations with previous exam toppers on platforms like YouTube, which helped her create a well-structured preparation plan. Pooja emphasized the importance of studying from NCERT textbooks and staying updated with current affairs through newspapers.

She diligently kept up with relevant content by closely following government websites like PIB (Press Information Bureau) and PRS (PRS Legislative Research). Choosing anthropology as her optional subject came naturally to Pooja, as it was a subject she had a genuine passion for.

Throughout her journey, Pooja’s family remained a constant source of unwavering support. They stood by her side during her pursuit of medical studies and throughout her diligent preparation for the UPSC exam, providing essential encouragement and assistance at every step.
