Enhanced Netflix Rating Experience: Mobile Users Can Now Rate Shows on the Go

Netflix has unveiled an update to its “Thumbs Up” feature, making it more convenient for mobile app users to rate movies and TV shows while watching them. With this new functionality, subscribers can express their preferences with a simple tap on the screen, without the need to navigate back to the show or movie’s page.

Previously, viewers had to return to a title’s details page to provide a thumbs-up or thumbs-down rating. The updated feature enables users to interact with the rating system seamlessly during any point of their viewing experience, whether it’s in the middle of a show or during the closing credits. At the top of the screen, users can choose from options such as Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, or Two Thumbs Up, and then seamlessly continue watching their selected content.

This enhancement is anticipated to encourage more subscribers to engage with the rating system. The thumbs ratings play a crucial role in refining Netflix’s recommendations for individual users. By understanding what viewers have watched and enjoyed, the streaming platform can offer more personalized content suggestions that align with their preferences.

A spokesperson from Netflix emphasized the practicality of this update: “You might be so in the zone with a series you really love that you forget to go to its details page to give it a Double Thumbs Up. It’s just one easy step that can help us suggest more films and series that are more tailored to your tastes.”

The concept of thumbs ratings has been part of the Netflix experience for six years. Before adopting this system, the platform experimented with a five-star rating approach. However, this method only provided a broad overview of a title’s popularity and didn’t offer insights into an individual’s viewing habits. Upon the introduction of thumbs ratings, Netflix observed a significant 200% surge in user activity.

Last year, Netflix introduced the Two Thumbs Up button, aiming to gather more nuanced feedback from its members. This continuous refinement of the rating system underscores Netflix’s commitment to improving user engagement and enhancing content recommendations.

By integrating user preferences into its algorithm, Netflix further solidifies its position as a leading entertainment provider that tailors its offerings to the tastes of individual viewers. As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, features like the enhanced rating system contribute to a more personalized and satisfying streaming experience for subscribers worldwide.
