Mumbai, 31st July 2023: The Bollywood industry witnessed a fiery verbal exchange between actress Kangana Ranaut and filmmaker Karan Johar, as they locked horns over the use of PR strategies to influence film success. The heated confrontation occurred during the release of Karan’s latest directorial venture, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. Kangana took to her official Instagram account on Sunday to express her strong opinions, targeting Karan for his past statements about employing PR to alter a film’s box office performance.
In one of her Instagram posts, Kangana shared a video of Karan and wrote, “Karan Johar ji is claiming that he can achieve anything by throwing money around… He can manipulate any perception. Do they only ensure their films succeed, or do they also resort to negative PR to sabotage others’ hit movies?”
In another post, the actress criticized the practice of misrepresenting mediocre work as exceptional and vice versa, describing it as demonic, evil, and malicious. She expressed deep concern about the state of the Hindi film industry, likening it to a sinking ship with underlying internal issues that need to be addressed. Kangana hoped for better judgment and urged everyone in the industry to do the right thing.
In addition to her posts, Kangana shared an old video of Karan on her Instagram Story, sarcastically commenting on the “gloriousness of paid PR” and mockingly comparing his arrogance to that of the mythical character Ravan.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” proved to be a commercial success, crossing the Rs 50 crore mark at the domestic box office within just four days of its release. On the other hand, Kangana is preparing for the release of her upcoming film “Emergency,” which revolves around the Indian Emergency period.
