Apple TV App’s Grand Makeover: A Streamlined Streaming Experience Awaits

Apple is making significant strides in the streaming world with a major overhaul of the Apple TV app expected before the year’s end. According to insights from top industry insider Mark Gurman in his Bloomberg newsletter, this update aims to consolidate all entertainment services into one streamlined app by December 2023. It’s part of a tvOS software update and will be available on iOS and iPadOS platforms, marking a pivotal moment for Apple’s presence in the streaming landscape.

What to Expect from the Apple TV App Redesign

The redesign of the Apple TV app is not just about a fresh coat of paint. According to Gurman’s sources, Apple is planning to discontinue its dedicated apps on the Apple TV set-top box, which allow users to rent and purchase movies and shows. Furthermore, the movie and TV show sections will be removed from the iTunes Store app on iPhones and iPads. These moves signify Apple’s commitment to becoming a more influential player in the streaming industry.

A Unified Streaming Experience

The Apple TV app is already available on a wide range of Smart TVs, and Apple’s aim is to encourage more users to adopt the service. By consolidating all entertainment options into one app, Apple seeks to simplify the user experience. Subscribers can not only access Apple TV+ content but also third-party video services like Starz and Paramount+ directly through the revamped app. This eliminates the need for a separate iTunes option for renting and buying programs.

Streamlined Navigation

The app’s redesign is expected to feature a new side panel on the left-hand side for easier navigation between video categories. This design aesthetic is in line with what viewers are accustomed to on platforms like Netflix and other streaming services, ensuring a user-friendly experience.

A Bright Future for Apple TV

Apple TV has had a remarkable year, solidifying its position in the streaming landscape. Notable highlights include exclusive streaming rights for Major League Soccer (MLS) through MLS Season Pass. Apple TV Plus subscribers have also enjoyed blockbuster releases such as Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which hit cinemas before landing on the platform. Furthermore, Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” is on the horizon.

As we approach the end of the year, Apple TV users and Apple TV Plus subscribers have a lot to look forward to. The anticipated changes to the Apple TV app are expected to enhance the overall streaming experience, making it a more compelling option for viewers. And there’s a chance we might catch a glimpse of these exciting developments on November 30, during Apple’s “Scary Fast” event, where M3 Macs are likely to be revealed.
