Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 Faces Scrutiny: Censor Board Calls for Thorough Review

Mumbai, 13th July 2023: Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated film, OMG 2, has hit a roadblock as it undergoes scrutiny by the Central Board of Certification (CBFC). The movie, initially slated for an August release, has reportedly been put on hold by the Censor Board, while other sources suggest that it has been sent to the Revision Committee for a comprehensive review. This development follows the recent controversy surrounding certain dialogues in the film Adipurush.

According to insiders cited by India Today, the decision to refer OMG 2 to the revising committee is a precautionary measure taken by the Censor Board to avoid any potential backlash similar to what occurred after the release of Adipurush last month. Adipurush faced criticism due to controversial dialogues, which prompted the filmmakers to make modifications post-release, along with an apology from the dialogue writer, Manoj Muntashir.

While Akshay Kumar and director Amit Rai have yet to comment on these reports, a reliable source close to the film revealed to ETimes that there are currently no major issues. They clarified that the censor board process is still underway and after a recent screening, the board recommended that the film be submitted to the Revision Committee.

The teaser of OMG 2 was unveiled earlier this week, confirming Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Lord Shiva, with the actor sporting dreadlocks. In the movie, Akshay plays the role of a deity, while Pankaj Tripathi portrays a devoted follower. The star-studded cast also includes Yami Gautam and Arun Govil.

OMG 2 serves as a sequel to the highly successful 2012 film OMG, which featured Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal in lead roles. The film is currently scheduled for release on August 11, coinciding with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer. As the Censor Board’s review process unfolds, fans eagerly await further updates on the film’s fate and its eventual release.
