Air India Flights to Operate Under Air India Express: A Step Closer to Merger

In a major development, the Tata Group’s strategic plan to merge its low-cost carrier AIX Connect (formerly known as AirAsia India) with Air India Express has received regulatory approval. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given the green light, allowing flights of both airlines to be marketed, distributed, and operated under the common brand name ‘Air India Express.’

This approval marks a significant milestone in the integration efforts of AI Express and AIX Connect. AI Express expressed its enthusiasm, stating that it fast-tracks the process of harmonizing customer touchpoints, products, and services across both airlines.

At present, Air India Express operates flights from 20 cities in India to 14 regional international destinations, while AIX Connect serves 19 domestic destinations. The combined network will offer an extensive reach for travelers, covering both domestic and international routes.

With regulatory hurdles cleared, the Tata Group is now on track to finalize the merger of AIX Connect and Air India Express. The industry and passengers eagerly anticipate the unveiling of a new and unified Air India Express, backed by the Tata Group’s reputation for excellence and innovation. The merger is expected to reshape India’s aviation landscape and usher in a new era of seamless and efficient air travel for passengers across the country and beyond.

The journey towards integration began several months ago when both airlines introduced a unified website, airindiaexpress.com. This platform allows users to access the services of both carriers seamlessly, simplifying the booking and travel process for customers. The integration efforts have focused on optimizing resources and unlocking synergies between the two companies, with the ultimate goal of creating a renewed and unified brand experience for passengers.

In the coming months, consumers can expect energized offerings under a common brand, demonstrating the Tata Group’s commitment to providing a superlative customer experience. As the merger progresses, travelers can look forward to a more streamlined and customer-centric air travel experience under the unified Air India Express brand.
