In a candid interview, veteran Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor recently shared intimate details of his personal life, shedding light on his love story with wife Shivangi Kolhapure and the sacrifices made for their enduring relationship. Kapoor, known for his iconic roles in Hindi cinema, opened up about his early days in the industry and the pivotal role that Shivangi played in his life.
Shakti Kapoor’s journey in Bollywood began in 1977 with “Khel Khilari Ka,” but it was only after a few years and memorable performances in movies like “Qurbani” and “Rocky” that he firmly established his presence in the film fraternity. Amidst the hustle of the film industry, fate brought him face to face with Shivangi Kolhapure, his future wife.
What makes their love story truly remarkable is the sacrifice that Shivangi made for their relationship. Kapoor revealed that he met Shivangi during a film shoot when both of them were child actors. Shivangi, who was 12 years younger, initially admired Kapoor as a fan. However, destiny had other plans, and their paths intertwined in a love story that would stand the test of time.
“We met and fell in love. I realized I will not get such a beautiful and homely girl. That’s how we started seeing each other,” Kapoor reminisced about their early days together.
Despite their love, Kapoor’s commitment to his acting career led him to become somewhat distracted. He candidly admitted that he expressed his concerns to Shivangi, who was understandably upset. During this time, Shivangi was receiving numerous film offers, including one for Sawan Kumar Tak’s “Laila.”
“People started offering her films, and she went ahead and signed ‘Laila.’ Meri halaat kharab hogayi (I was worried), as I was the Majnu in her life,” Kapoor revealed.
In a touching revelation, Shakti Kapoor confessed that he pleaded with Shivangi to leave her acting career behind and embrace the role of a housewife. He recounted, “I went to her and begged her not to work. I wanted her as a housewife. It’s been 40 years with her. She gave up her career for me. I still fold my hands in front of her. I got married at the peak of my career, and she brought me more luck and prosperity. We then had a son and daughter, and built our own family.”
