IIT Delhi Buzz: Zomato’s Rs 1.6 Crore Job Offer Raises Eyebrows, Withdrawn Amid Doubts

As the placement season kicks off at various Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) centers, an unexpected twist unfolded at IIT Delhi when Zomato, the popular online delivery platform, offered a staggering Rs 1.6 crore salary for the position of Algorithms Engineer. However, the excitement was short-lived as the company later withdrew the job offer, citing internal constraints.

The revelation came from Hrithik Talwar, a research intern at IIT Delhi, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the details of the surprising job offer and subsequent withdrawal. The notification shared by Talwar indicated the abrupt change in Zomato’s hiring plans, urging students to withdraw their applications due to unforeseen company constraints.

The post quickly gained traction on social media, with users expressing a mix of disbelief and skepticism. While some questioned the authenticity of such a high-paying role, others speculated whether it was a strategic move by Zomato for marketing purposes.

One user, in response to the news, raised doubts, asking, “Wasn’t it supposed to be 16L, and it got mistyped as 1.6 crore bruh?” The discrepancy in the reported salary sparked further discussions, with users debating whether the figure was an error or an accurate representation of the initial offer.

Another user commented on the perceived incredibility of the salary, stating, “1.6 crore package or 1.6 crore salary cause salary is a bit insane.” The sheer magnitude of the offered salary left many users questioning the feasibility of such an exorbitant payout for a fresher.

A third user expressed skepticism from the outset, stating, “I knew it was a marketing gig the moment I read the news. No way a company like Zomato can offer 1.6 crore to a fresher.” The skepticism surrounding the job offer highlights the challenges companies face in making extraordinary claims in the competitive landscape of campus placements.
