Flexes and Banners Flood Pimpri-Chinchwad as Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan Advocates for ‘Jijau Nagar’ Rename

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 18th June 2023: In their continued efforts to demand the renaming of Pimpri-Chinchwad city as ‘Jijau Nagar,’ Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan has once again adorned the city with flexes and banners.

Earlier this month, numerous banners were displayed throughout the city to support the call for renaming Pimpri-Chinchwad as a tribute to Rajmata Jijau, the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In line with this demand, a social media campaign under the hashtag #ISupportJijauNagar is also gaining momentum through Pratishthan.

Yesterday, on June 17, the 350th death anniversary of Rajmata Jijau was commemorated, and Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan reiterated their demand. Currently, Pimpri-Chinchwad is commonly referred to as ‘PCMC,’ but if this continues, the city’s identity may be diminished in the future. Hence, Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan persistently advocates for renaming the city to Jijau Nagar.

Similar to Mumbai, which was previously known as Bombay, Pimpri-Chinchwad should not be identified merely as PCMC. The acronym PCMC is in English, and it is observed that professionals and individuals from outside the state tend to use this abbreviated name instead of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Mahesh Barne, a representative of Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan, expresses concern over the diminishing recognition of the city’s name. He firmly believes that renaming the city to Jijau Nagar would not only pay homage to Rajmata Jijau but also preserve the city’s rich heritage.

The campaign for renaming Pimpri-Chinchwad as Jijau Nagar continues to gather support, as flexes and banners serve as a visual representation of the public’s demand. The Bhakti-Shakti Pratishthan remains dedicated to their cause, seeking to honor the legacy of Rajmata Jijau and ensure the preservation of the city’s cultural significance.
