Capturing Moments: #Melodi Selfie between Italy’s PM Meloni and PM Modi Breaks the Internet

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has set the internet on fire with a single hashtag. On Friday, Meloni took to social media to share a selfie with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, captured at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, and added the hashtag #Melodi.

The clever play on their surnames, #Melodi, has swiftly become a viral sensation on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). With over 60,000 posts utilizing the hashtag, the Italian PM’s selfie has garnered an impressive 13 million views on the platform.

In the caption accompanying the picture, Giorgia Meloni, 46, wrote, “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi.”

PM Modi reciprocated the gesture by sharing a photograph with Meloni, along with several other world leaders, including King Charles, and adding a couple of lines in Italian. “I trust in the joint efforts of India and Italy for a prosperous and sustainable future,” he expressed.

Despite a hectic schedule addressing four sessions at the UN’s climate change conference on December 1, PM Narendra Modi engaged with various world leaders and held bilateral meetings. Notable among them were meetings with his British counterpart Rishi Sunak, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Additionally, the Prime Minister spoke with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the COP28 summit. Stressing that India is among the few countries on track to fulfill its climate pledges, Modi proposed hosting the UN climate conference in 2028. He also launched a ‘Green Credit Initiative,’ focusing on creating carbon sinks through people’s participation.
