In a bid to revolutionize travel between Kerala and Dubai, the Indian government has given the green light to a luxury cruise service, offering a more affordable and scenic alternative to traditional flights. The Beypore (Kozhikode)-Kochi-Dubai cruise line is poised to become India’s first passenger ship service to a foreign country, catering to the increasing demand from non-resident Indians seeking economical travel options.
The decision comes as a response to the escalating prices of airline tickets for the Kerala to Dubai route, which can range from Rs 11,000 to a staggering Rs 40,000 for a one-way trip. The introduction of this cruise service aims to alleviate the financial burden on travelers and promote tourism between the two regions.
Cruising into Luxury and Affordability
Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the preliminary procedures to launch the cruise service are already in progress. The move is expected to benefit Indian expatriates in the UAE, providing them with a more cost-effective means of travel to their home country.
The cruise is anticipated to offer a significantly lower cost compared to airline tickets, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. With a capacity to accommodate 1,250 passengers at a time and providing three times more luggage space than airlines, the cruise promises a luxurious and spacious journey.
Originally constructed in Kochi for a different purpose, the vessel has been repurposed to facilitate this vital Kerala Gulf service. While the sea voyage will take approximately three and a half days, the experience is expected to be a scenic and opulent way to traverse the ocean, presenting travelers with a unique and enjoyable mode of transportation.
As the project gains momentum, the Beypore-Kochi-Dubai cruise line is set to redefine travel norms, offering a refreshing and cost-effective alternative to traditional long-haul flights. With its blend of luxury and affordability, the cruise is poised to become a game-changer in the travel industry, opening up new avenues for exploration and connection between Kerala and Dubai.
