Zooming Forward: Discontinuation of iOS 11 and 12 Support Nudges Users to Upgrade

In a recent announcement, Zoom has revealed its decision to discontinue support for older versions of iOS, namely iOS 11 and iOS 12. This change will take effect starting next month, as stated in the release notes for the latest update to Zoom for iPhone. “This is the last planned release to support iOS versions 11 and 12. With next month’s planned release, iOS users will need to upgrade to iOS 13 or higher to continue to receive additional Zoom app updates,” Zoom said in its support page.

Adapt or Lose Out: Upgrade to iOS 13 for Continued Zoom Access

Users are informed that in order to continue receiving Zoom updates, they must upgrade their devices to iOS 13 or higher. The company emphasized this point in its release notes, indicating that the upcoming release will mark the end of support for iOS 11 and 12.

The Pace of Technological Evolution

The decision to drop support for these older iOS versions may not be surprising to many, considering that iOS 11 was introduced in 2017 and iOS 12 followed in 2018. With the rapid pace of technological advancements, it’s becoming increasingly common for companies to phase out support for older operating systems.

For individuals still using devices running on iOS 11 or 12, it’s now imperative to contemplate upgrading to a supported version of iOS. Failure to do so could result in the inability to access future Zoom updates and features.

Zoom has advised users to refer to the full release notes for today’s Zoom for iOS update on the company’s website for further details. This move by Zoom underscores the importance of staying current with software updates to ensure optimal functionality and security.

Embracing Change: The Latest Zoom Features and Enhancements

As technology continues to evolve, it’s essential for users to adapt to these changes in order to effectively utilize the latest features and enhancements offered by applications like Zoom.

The latest Zoom update introduces a new “All Screens Mode” feature allowing hosts to request all participants to share their screens simultaneously. This mode provides a side-by-side view of participants and their shared desktops, simplifying proctoring. Hosts can also permit participants to view all shared desktops. Admins can control this feature at the account and group levels. Additionally, hosts can enable it for individual meetings.

Other notable features include enhanced Waiting Room customization options for admins, allowing automatic movement of participants when hosts leave and return. For webinars, attendees can now view Q&A submissions from before they joined, provided Zoom app version 5.17.0 or higher is used.

Furthermore, enhancements to the user interface for Thread Summary with AI Companion in Team Chat, improvements to Zoom Calendar notifications, the ability to disable Zoom Mail sound effects, and features for phone calls such as obfuscating sensitive data and notifying users of volume and microphone issues during calls are also included in this update.
