WhatsApp’s Anamorphic Installations Transform Gateway of India into a Digital Privacy Experience

Mumbai, August 23, 2023: WhatsApp has taken a novel approach to showcase its commitment to privacy by unveiling a captivating 3D anamorphic installation at the iconic Gateway of India in Mumbai. This immersive installation serves as a visual representation of the instant messaging and voice-over-IP service’s multifaceted privacy controls and layers of protection.

Breaking new ground, this installation marks the Gateway of India’s first-ever 3D anamorphic display. The artwork ingeniously transforms the historic landmark into a digital tableau, demonstrating how WhatsApp’s privacy measures coalesce to establish a secure haven for private messaging. The exhibit seamlessly incorporates the city’s local symbols, such as the renowned kaali-peeli taxi, the quintessential red post box, the iconic street lamps, and the ever-present pigeons at the Gateway of India.

The installation elegantly spotlights WhatsApp’s key privacy features, including end-to-end encryption, two-step verification, silence unknown callers, and disappearing messages. By tracing the journey of a WhatsApp message from sender to recipient with no intermediaries, the installation underscores how WhatsApp’s privacy features empower users with complete command over their message privacy.

Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President of Meta India, expressed, “Privacy is integral to WhatsApp’s ethos, and we’re thrilled to witness the evolution of our privacy campaign as it illuminates the Gateway of India. This initiative aims to heighten user awareness about WhatsApp’s privacy features and the layers of protection we provide.”

Devanathan elaborated on the unique nature of the anamorphic privacy installations, highlighting their role in reinforcing WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to launching privacy enhancements. These features cater to individuals’ varying privacy needs while they engage in heartfelt conversations with friends and family.

The Gateway of India installations stand as part of WhatsApp’s global privacy campaign, which was introduced in June and has since been showcased across various mediums. This campaign introduced new privacy features like “Silence unknown callers” and “Privacy Checkup.” Additionally, an on-ground activation partnered with Anushka Sharma involved mirrored messages displayed in malls across Delhi.

Through this ingenious blend of art and technology, WhatsApp continues to emphasize its dedication to fostering secure and private digital communication for its users. The transformation of the Gateway of India into an immersive privacy experience reflects the brand’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding user data and enhancing the overall messaging experience.
