WhatsApp for Mac Gets an Upgrade, but iPad Users Still Waiting”

WhatsApp for Mac has introduced a brand-new app optimized for Apple Silicon Macs after months of beta testing. This update aims to enhance responsiveness, reduce battery drain, and improve efficiency for Mac users. However, while this Mac version receives a significant upgrade, iPad users continue to wait for a dedicated app.

A Boost for WhatsApp on Mac

WhatsApp recently announced the release of its upgraded app for Mac, following extensive beta testing. The new app offers a more consistent design, aligning it with the iPhone version. Users can access essential features, including:

  • Chat management (pinning, archiving, searching for unread messages, etc.)
  • Making calls (individual and group chat links)
  • Viewing WhatsApp Status (akin to Stories)
  • Checking archived messages
  • Accessing settings

Furthermore, this app allows users to send and receive messages even when their primary phone isn’t in close proximity. However, it appears that users are still unable to access Channels or Communities, although these features may become available in future updates.

The Missing Piece: WhatsApp for iPad

Despite WhatsApp dedicating the last ten months to developing an all-new macOS version, the company has yet to release an official app for the iPad. This omission is noteworthy, particularly because the new Mac app is built using Project Catalyst, a technology that could potentially facilitate the porting of the Mac app to the iPad.

The absence of a dedicated iPad app is especially frustrating for iPad users since the iPhone version, while functional, is not optimized for the larger screen of Apple’s tablets. This oversight puts WhatsApp at a disadvantage compared to its main competitor, Telegram.

Telegram offers seamless device connectivity, the ability to access messages across different platforms, and, importantly, the capability to migrate data from one device to another without losing any backups.

Despite these challenges, it’s important to note that the release of the new Mac app for WhatsApp may indicate that WhatsApp for iPad is closer to becoming a reality. iPad users can potentially expect similar improvements and compatibility enhancements when the company decides to roll out the software for Apple tablets.
