Verizon Announces Second Round of Price Hikes for Older Unlimited Plans

In a move that may stir discontent among its loyal customer base, Verizon has revealed plans to increase the monthly costs for certain older unlimited plans for the second time in less than a year. Effective March 1, 2024, subscribers to the 5G Get More, 5G Play More, 5G Do More, and 5G Start unlimited plans introduced in 2022 will witness a $4 per month hike for every line on their accounts.

A Verizon spokesperson confirmed the impending price adjustment, stating, “Starting March 1, Verizon customers on select older Unlimited mobile plans will see a monthly plan increase of $4 per line, effective their next billing cycle.” This decision mirrors a similar move made by the carrier in August of the previous year when it increased the prices of plans like Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Above Unlimited, and 5G Start unlimited by $3 per month per line.

The rationale behind these incremental price hikes appears to be a strategic effort to encourage subscribers to transition to Verizon’s newer plans. Introduced in May, the myPlan unlimited data plans — Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Welcome — come with the option to add perks such as the Disney Bundle, Apple One, Netflix & Max (with ads), or a Walmart+ membership for an additional $10 per month.

Verizon emphasizes that subscribers “can easily move to myPlan and take advantage of the network option that works best for them, plus exclusive savings on the entertainment, shopping, and experiences that matter to them, including Disney Plus, Apple One, Netflix, Max, Walmart, and many others.”
