Valokuitunen Network Reaches Over 200,000 Households in Finland

Valokuitunen Network, Finland’s sole national open-service fiber optic builder, has achieved a significant milestone by connecting over 200,000 households to its network. This achievement comes ahead of schedule, as the network has welcomed 75,000 new homes this year alone.

Strategic Ownership and Rapid Growth

Owned by CapMan’s Infra fund (60 percent) and Telia (40 percent), Valokuitunen Network has rapidly expanded its reach to cover a substantial number of households in Finland. The company builds an open fiber-optic network that provides customers with a wide selection of internet service providers and their offerings.

Exceeding Expansion Goals

Valokuitunen was founded in 2020 with the goal of connecting 200,000 Finnish households to its network by 2025. However, the company has achieved this milestone two years ahead of schedule due to the increasing demand for fiber-optic connections.

“We are proud to have achieved our network’s expansion goal within three years. Valokuitunen’s network investments for this year are set to reach nearly 100 million euros. We are unequivocally the leading investor in fixed telecommunications infrastructure in Finland this year,” stated the company.

Advantages of Fiber Expansion

Throughout the summer, Valokuitunen has been collaborating with subcontractors to lay down fiber-optic connections in around 30 municipalities. With the network accessible in 80 locations across the country, Finnish households can now enjoy the benefits of open fiber-optic connections.

“Finnish households that opt for open fiber-optic connections no longer need to worry about their telecommunications for decades to come. Fiber-optic is undeniably the best available telecommunication solution, offering speed, reliability, and uninterrupted service. It won’t falter during remote meetings or movie streaming,” emphasized the company.

Empowering Consumer Choice

Valokuitunen constructs an open fiber-optic network that empowers customers to choose their services from a range of providers. Customers can order the fiber connection separately and select the necessary internet service when the fiber-optic connection is ready for use. This approach gives customers the flexibility to avoid being tied to a single internet service provider and allows them to choose from a diverse range of services available on the network.

Future Expansion and Investment

The company secured a new financing agreement in July, enabling it to invest over 400 million euros in fiber-optic coverage for urban areas in Finland in the coming years. Valokuitunen aims to offer fiber-optic connections based on an open network to up to 400,000 Finnish households in the next few years.

Valokuitunen’s rapid expansion of its open fiber-optic network provides Finnish consumers with the option of a high-quality, fast telecommunication connection from a variety of providers, contributing to the growth and enhancement of the country’s digital infrastructure.
