Twitter to go all-in with a default dark mode: Here’s what’s happening

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has been making significant changes to the platform recently. Along with introducing new features, Musk has rebranded Twitter as “X,” a change that is already visible in the company’s Android app and web-based platform. Now, Musk has announced another major change to the platform by making dark mode the default offering.

Currently, Twitter offers a light mode as the default option for all its users accessing the platform via web or its mobile apps. However, Musk confirmed on Twitter that soon dark mode will replace the light mode as the default option. In response to a comment about Twitter going from blue to black, Musk stated, “This platform will soon only have ‘dark mode.’ It is better in every way.”

After receiving numerous requests from users to keep the light mode, Musk decided to retain both options. However, the default offering will be dark mode, and the dim mode, which stands between the light and dark themes, will be deleted.

Musk hinted at the rebranding of Twitter as “X” on Sunday with a series of tweets, mentioning bidding adieu to the Twitter brand and all the birds. Following these tweets, the X logo replaced the Twitter blue bird on the platform’s web version. The Android app was also updated with the new ‘X’ logo and name. The rebranding led to speculations about potential lawsuits due to patent issues, but Musk clarified that Twitter was acquired by X Corp to ensure freedom of speech and to accelerate X, the everything app.

According to Musk, the name “Twitter” made sense when the platform was limited to 140-character messages, resembling birds tweeting. However, with the capability to post almost anything, including long videos, the rebranding to “X” represents a shift towards comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct the entire financial world.

With the implementation of dark mode as the default option and the rebranding as “X,” Twitter is gearing up for a new phase of innovation and growth, catering to users’ preferences and enhancing their overall experience on the platform.
