Snapchat Opens Dark Mode for Android Users Without Subscription Requirement

Snapchat has made a subtle yet significant change for Android users by removing the paywall for accessing the dark mode feature. Previously, the dark mode was only accessible to users who had a subscription to Snapchat+. However, the company has now confirmed that dark mode is available to all Android users, regardless of their subscription status. This decision comes after Snapchat initially introduced dark mode for Android users earlier this year, but exclusively for those with a Snapchat+ subscription.

Dark mode, which is known for its reduced screen brightness and improved readability in low-light environments, was already available for free to iOS users since 2021. With the recent change, Android users can also enjoy the benefits of dark mode without the need for a subscription.

Snapchat’s subscription service, known as Snapchat+, boasts 4 million paid subscribers in its first year of operation. This service, priced at $3.99 per month, provides subscribers with access to experimental and pre-release features, customizable app themes, unique app icons, and additional features such as the ability to pin a preferred friend as No. 1 BFF.

Snapchat+ is available in several countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. With the removal of the subscription requirement for dark mode on Android, Snapchat aims to enhance user experience and cater to the preferences of its wider user base.
