Samsung Galaxy S24 AI Features to Remain Free Until 2025, but What Happens Next?

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S24 series, unveiled in a grand event in California, has captivated tech enthusiasts with its cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) features driven by the innovative Galaxy AI technology.

In the spotlight were the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S24+, each boasting Samsung’s novel AI capabilities. However, hidden within the fine print of the presentation lies a crucial detail that might impact users in the future.

Limited-Time Free Access

A seemingly inconspicuous footnote at the bottom of the page discloses that “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.”

Potential Future Costs

While purchasers of the Galaxy S24 series phones will savor complimentary access to these AI features until 2025, an industry trend suggests a potential shift in strategy after the initial period. Apple’s iPhone 14 series, for instance, introduced a time-limited free Emergency SOS via Satellite feature until November 2025, prompting speculation about Samsung’s future pricing plans.

What’s on the Subscription Table?

The ambiguity in Samsung’s footnote raises questions about the scope of potential charges. It remains unclear whether all AI-powered features in Samsung’s native apps like Phone, Messages, Gallery, and Notes will incur subscription fees, or if the charges will be exclusive to third-party AI-powered features, like the Circle to Search feature developed in collaboration with Google. As of now, Samsung has not disclosed pricing details for Galaxy AI features post-2025.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Price

Despite the uncertainty surrounding AI features, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is already making waves in the market. In India, prices start at Rs 79,999 for the base model, with an 8GB/512GB variant available at Rs 89,999. The Galaxy S24 Plus begins at Rs 99,999 for the 12GB/256GB variant, with the 12GB/512GB option costing Rs 1,09,999. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is priced at Rs 1,29,999 for the 12GB/256GB version, with the 12GB/512GB and 12GB/1TB configurations available for Rs 1,39,999 and Rs 1,59,999, respectively.
