Long-time Microsoft veteran takes the reins following leadership shuffle in key divisions
In a strategic move to bolster its Windows and Surface divisions, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has reportedly appointed Pavan Davuluri as the new head of these crucial teams. Davuluri, a seasoned veteran with over 23 years of experience at Microsoft, previously led the Surface silicon and devices division before assuming this expanded role.
The decision to elevate Davuluri comes in the wake of significant leadership changes within Microsoft’s experiences and devices segment. With the departure of Panos Panay to Amazon.com, Inc. last year, a void was left in the leadership of the Windows and Surface teams. Mikhail Parakhin, who temporarily filled the position, has opted to explore new opportunities, paving the way for Davuluri’s ascent.
According to an internal memo from Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s head of experiences and devices, the company is also restructuring its Windows and devices teams. This reorganization aims to integrate these units more closely within the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division, fostering a holistic approach to product development and innovation in the AI era.
The consolidation of these teams underscores Microsoft’s commitment to delivering seamless experiences across its ecosystem, spanning both Windows client and cloud services. Despite the transitional phase, Microsoft remains focused on advancing its technological capabilities and meeting the evolving needs of its user base.
As Davuluri assumes his new role, he will report directly to Rajesh Jha, ensuring alignment with the company’s broader strategic objectives. Meanwhile, Mikhail Parakhin will report to Kevin Scott during the transition period, with his future at Microsoft remaining uncertain.
The reorganization coincides with the recent appointment of Mustafa Suleyman, a prominent figure in the field of artificial intelligence, as the CEO of a new AI team at Microsoft. These strategic moves underscore Microsoft’s proactive stance in harnessing emerging technologies and talent to drive innovation across its product portfolio.
