MediaTek Dimensity Chipsets Boosted with Google Gemini Nano Integration

In a strategic move towards enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, MediaTek has joined forces with Google to optimize support for Gemini Nano on devices featuring the Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chips. This collaboration opens new possibilities for smartphone manufacturers and developers to harness on-device AI functionalities facilitated by Google’s Gemini Nano model.

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chips, known for their integrated APU and NeuroPilot AI platform, now take a significant step forward by incorporating support for Gemini Nano. This aligns with the broader industry trend where leading smartphone OEMs prioritize on-device and cloud-based AI functionalities in their flagship devices, enhancing overall user experience.

MediaTek’s commitment to fostering ecosystems essential for AI technology advancement is evident in this collaboration with Google. The focus revolves around integrating and optimizing Gemini Nano, Google’s Large Language Model tailored for on-device Generative AI, to efficiently operate on Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chipsets.

The advantages of on-device AI processing, highlighted by MediaTek, include seamless performance, enhanced privacy, improved security, reduced latency, operability in low-connectivity environments, and lower operational costs. Leveraging Gemini Nano, designed by Google specifically for smartphones, empowers users to access powerful AI capabilities directly on their devices.

Devices featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC, such as the Vivo X100 series, Oppo Find X7 series, Tecno Phantom V2 Fold, and iQOO Neo 9 Pro, are set to benefit from this collaboration. Similarly, smartphones equipped with the Dimensity 8300 SoC, including the Oppo Reno 12, Xiaomi Redmi K70E, and Poco X6 Pro 5G, will also experience the amplified AI capabilities.

While the adoption of Dimensity 9300 and 8300 chips is currently limited in smartphones, the collaboration between MediaTek and Google marks a significant milestone. This development holds particular importance for flagship smartphone users powered by the Dimensity 9300 chipset, such as those using the Vivo X100 and Oppo Find X7 series. However, the impact is expected to resonate even more among budget and midrange smartphone users equipped with the Dimensity 8300 processor.

Looking ahead, MediaTek and Google are gearing up to release an APK tailored for the Dimensity 9300 and 8300 SoCs, featuring Gemini Nano support. This release will empower developers and smartphone manufacturers to seamlessly integrate on-device Gemini Nano support into Dimensity 9300 and 8300 devices, further democratizing access to advanced AI capabilities.
