iPhone 15 Battery Insights: Unveiling the Cycle Count Feature

iPhone 15 users will now have the ability to check their device’s battery cycle count, a significant enhancement in battery monitoring, as revealed on X (formerly Twitter).

Previously, methods to ascertain an iPhone’s battery cycle count were either unofficial, relying on third-party apps, or involved complex procedures, such as copying and pasting analytical data into Notes and searching for the term “last_value_CycleCount.” However, a recent screenshot shared by @Tech_Reve demonstrates that battery cycle information is now readily accessible on ‌iPhone 15‌ models. Users can access this information by navigating through Settings, General, and About, where a new “Battery” section is located towards the bottom of the page. This section not only displays the number of battery cycles but also provides details about the production date and the date of the battery’s initial use.

Although battery health has been visible on the ‌iPhone‌ for several years through the “Maximum Capacity” indicator, the inclusion of specific cycle information offers users an invaluable metric for assessing their battery’s condition. A charge cycle is recorded each time the battery is fully depleted and subsequently recharged. MacBook users have had easy access to battery cycle information through the System Information section.

As explained on Apple’s battery information webpage, lithium-ion batteries function in charge cycles. Completing a charge cycle occurs when the battery is used to its full capacity, which doesn’t necessarily have to occur in a single charge. For example, if a user depletes 75% of their battery’s capacity one day and then fully recharges it overnight, and subsequently uses another 25% the next day, it adds up to one complete charge cycle. The capacity of lithium-ion batteries diminishes slightly with each completed charge cycle, which is a natural characteristic of these batteries.

Additionally, it was recently revealed that all ‌iPhone 15‌ and iPhone 15 Pro models include a new battery health setting. This setting restricts the device from charging beyond 80% capacity when enabled. Apple has indicated that all ‌iPhone 15‌ models maintain the same battery life as their iPhone 14 predecessors. These highly anticipated devices are set to be released this Friday.
