Google Photos Introduces New Features for Decluttering and Organization

Google Photos is gearing up to offer users more control over their photo galleries with upcoming features aimed at decluttering and enhancing organization.

Here’s a breakdown of the latest developments:

1. “Hide Clutter” Option: Version 6.79.0.624 of Google Photos reveals plans for a new “Hide clutter” option in the main gallery view. This feature, spotted by AssembleDebug and PunikaWeb, will allow users to keep backed-up screenshots, GIFs, and memes hidden from the main gallery view, helping to reduce visual clutter.

  • The option will be accessible through the “Personalize your grid” function in the Photos tab’s three-dot menu.
  • Despite being hidden from the main gallery view, users can still access their hidden screenshots and GIFs through their respective albums in Google Photos.

2. UI Tweaks for Memories Tab: Google is also revamping the “Memories” tab’s user interface, as discovered by AssembleDebug. Collages will now be displayed as Memories cards with rounded corners, providing a cleaner look reminiscent of Android widgets.

  • Users will have the option to disable automatic AI-generated titles for Memories through a new setting located in the app’s Preferences menu under AI features.

3. “Collections” Tab Redesign: An APK deep dive by 9to5Google unveils Google Photos’ plans to rename the “Library” tab to “Collections.” While the tab’s contents largely remain the same, the redesign aims to improve user experience by minimizing the space taken up by top row shortcuts.

  • Users will be able to view the status of their backed-up media within folders, providing transparency regarding their Cloud storage usage.

These updates build upon previous features such as “Photo Stacks,” introduced in January, which organizes visually similar photos into stacks for easier management.

Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance Google Photos include a new feature to help users reclaim storage space for their Cloud data, although specific details about this feature remain undisclosed.

While the rollout timeline for these updates remains uncertain, Google’s commitment to improving the user experience of Google Photos is evident through these latest developments.

Stay tuned for further announcements regarding these features and their availability to users.
