Google Enhances User Choice: Introduces New Search and Browser Choice Screens in Europe

In response to the EU Digital Markets Act, Google has implemented significant changes to its search and browser functionalities in Europe. The company aims to provide users with more choice and information by introducing new choice screens during the setup of Android devices or when using a browser.

Empowering Users with Choice Screens:

The newly introduced choice screens empower users to select their preferred search engine and browser from a curated list of options during the initial setup of their devices. This initiative is a result of comprehensive user research, testing, and industry feedback, aligning with Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience.

Search Choice Screen:

The search choice screen will be exclusively displayed on Android devices featuring the Google Search app and the Search box on the home screen. Users have the flexibility to change their preferred search engine at any time through the device settings, providing a dynamic and personalized experience.

Browser Choice Screen:

For phones and tablets in the European Economic Area (EEA) with Chrome as the default browser, the Browser Choice Screen will be presented. This arrangement is a result of a collaborative agreement between Google and its partners, ensuring that users have the opportunity to explore alternative browser options.

Rollout and Future Expansion:

The implementation of these new choice screens is set to commence in the coming weeks on Android devices. Additionally, Google plans to extend these screens to Chrome for desktop and iOS devices, offering a consistent and user-friendly experience across various platforms.
