Google has rolled out a new feature that automatically displays line numbers in Google Docs documents set to paged mode. This latest update gives users more control over formatting and content organization, enhancing the overall user experience in Google Docs.
According to a recent blog post by Google Workspace Updates, line numbers will now be automatically calculated and shown next to each line in the document. Users have the flexibility to configure these line numbers for the entire document, a specific page, or a particular section. Additionally, the line numbers will be preserved when printing the document.
This feature proves to be particularly useful for users collaborating on lengthy or complex content. The inclusion of line numbers makes it easier for individuals to reference specific positions within the document, streamlining the collaborative process.
The update is being rolled out to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts. However, it’s important to note that this new option does not come with admin control, meaning it will be available universally to all users.
This is not the only recent improvement to Google Docs. Last week, Google announced the addition of the ‘Alt text’ option in the ‘Image options’ sidebar for Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings. This feature allows users to add alternative text descriptions to images, making documents more accessible for individuals with visual impairments.
Moreover, Google has been consistently updating the Docs app for Android devices. The “first open experience” in Docs on Android has been revamped to start in edit mode, providing users with quicker access to edit their documents seamlessly.
Furthermore, Google made ‘paginated mode’ the default setting for Docs on Android in June. With paginated mode, Google Docs is formatted with pages and page breaks, creating a more cohesive visual design between the web and mobile versions of the app.
