Globe Philippines Deploys 542 New Cell Sites in 1H 2023

In response to the surging demand for connectivity, Philippines-based operator Globe is ramping up its network infrastructure efforts. The company has made significant strides in the first half of 2023 by constructing 542 new cell sites and upgrading 5,087 mobile sites to LTE technology, catering to the growing need for reliable and high-speed internet connectivity across the country.

Fiber Deployment Strategy

In addition to cellular network expansion, Globe has also been actively deploying fiber infrastructure. By June 2023, the company has successfully deployed around 148,000 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines. While this number is slightly lower than the previous year, Globe is focused on optimizing its existing fiber inventory to ensure efficient utilization, aligning with its strategy to provide effective and reliable connectivity solutions.

Prioritizing Network Reliability

Globe Philippines adopts a targeted approach when it comes to prioritizing network rollouts and optimizations. The company places significant emphasis on maintaining network reliability, believing it to be a crucial metric that directly impacts users’ experiences. This stance is rooted in the understanding that reliable service delivery is of paramount importance, offering customers a consistent and dependable network connection that meets their needs, even in critical situations.

Globe’s spokesperson stated, “We employ a targeted way of prioritizing network rollouts and optimizations in areas that matter, hence, we are able to sustain our most reliable network. We also believe that network reliability – a metric that is difficult to achieve – is more important than just speed because, on a small screen, there’s just so much that higher speeds can deliver in terms of improving the actual perceptible experience.”

Substantial Investment for Enhanced Connectivity

To uphold its commitment to providing enhanced connectivity experiences, Globe has invested PHP 37.7 billion in capital expenditure for infrastructure development between January and June 2023. This financial commitment is projected to increase significantly to PHP 71.5 billion, roughly equivalent to USD 1.3 billion, by the end of the year. The majority of this investment, approximately 90 percent, is dedicated to supporting the growing data demands of Filipinos engaged in various activities such as learning, work, and leisure.

Continued Efforts for Connectivity Enhancement

Globe Philippines is on a continuous journey to ensure that Filipinos have access to reliable, high-speed connectivity. Through its strategic investments in network infrastructure and commitment to network reliability, the company aims to provide seamless connectivity experiences that cater to the diverse needs of its customers across the country.
