Files by Google App Introduces Document Scanning: A Quick Guide for Android Users

In a recent update, the Files by Google app for Android has introduced a new document scanning feature, allowing users to capture and save documents directly within the app. This enhancement brings added functionality to the popular file management app, streamlining the document scanning process for Android users.

How to Scan Documents Using Files by Google

For those eager to utilize this new feature, the process is straightforward:

  1. Open the Files by Google app on your Android device.
  2. Look for the new floating Scan button located in the bottom right corner of the screen and tap on it.
  3. Point your phone towards the document you want to scan.
  4. Within moments, the document will be automatically scanned.
  5. Tap on the Done button in the top right corner to complete the process.

Upon successfully scanning a document, a dedicated “Scanned” folder will appear within the Files app. Users can further customize their scans by cropping, rotating, applying filters, or making adjustments. It’s worth noting that all scanned documents are automatically saved in PDF format.

Reducing Dependency on Third-Party Apps

This integration of document scanning capabilities directly into the Files by Google app aims to provide users with a seamless and efficient experience. By eliminating the need for additional third-party document scanner apps, Android users can simplify their workflow and have a centralized solution for file management and document scanning.

While the feature was initially reported for Pixel devices by tech enthusiast Mishaal Rahman, it appears to be available on a wider range of Android devices, including the OnePlus 11R.
