Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom Forge a Path for Network APIs in Commercialization

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom have embarked on a commercial partnership aimed at delivering communication and network APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) to both developers and enterprises. This initiative represents a pioneering leap in the commercialization of network APIs, offering a direct interface to Deutsche Telekom’s extensive mobile network infrastructure.

Empowering Developers and Enterprises

Ericsson, a global leader in telecommunications technology, and Deutsche Telekom, one of Europe’s foremost telecommunications providers, have unveiled this innovative partnership to democratize the utilization of network APIs. Through this collaboration, the two industry giants are set to empower developers and enterprises by granting them simplified access to cutting-edge 5G capabilities.

Ericsson’s vision is to construct a global platform designed to expose a gamut of advanced 5G features. This platform will serve as the conduit for Quality on Demand, high-speed connectivity, reduced latency, precise location data, and other key attributes through easily consumable network APIs. Such a paradigm shift in network accessibility will enable developers and enterprises to seamlessly integrate these network capabilities into their applications, consequently unlocking novel avenues for operators to monetize their network investments.

A Strategic Enterprise Move

Ericsson’s strategic emphasis on building a global platform to unveil advanced 5G capabilities underscores its commitment to the enterprise sector. The company envisions that operators will unlock new revenue streams by embracing novel use cases that rely on network APIs.

In this context, Ericsson remarked, “Through network APIs, developers and enterprises get easy access to the advanced capabilities of the network to develop entirely new use cases. By creating a global platform business, Ericsson is redefining the industry and creating new ways to innovate through the network.”

The integration of network APIs into the business landscape signifies an era of innovation through network-driven solutions. It opens avenues for developers and enterprises to harness the potent capabilities of telecommunication networks for a multitude of applications and services.

“MagentaBusiness API”: Bridging the Communication Gap

As part of this collaboration, Deutsche Telekom will grant access to Vonage communications APIs, a subsidiary of Ericsson. This offering, consolidated under the banner of “MagentaBusiness API,” provides developers and enterprises with a centralized entry point to access a wide spectrum of communication and network functionalities.

Deutsche Telekom expressed its pride in pioneering this venture, stating, “At Deutsche Telekom, we are proud to be among the first network operators to make our network APIs available commercially, together with our valued partner Ericsson.”

This commercial launch marks a significant milestone in the evolution of network APIs. As the telecom industry continues to evolve, this collaborative initiative between Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom underscores the commitment to innovation and accessibility in the digital era.
