Elon Musk’s X Aims to Transform the Job Search Landscape, Competing with LinkedIn

The traditional approach of job seekers flocking to LinkedIn to find their next employment opportunity might be undergoing a transformation. X, formerly known as Twitter, has emerged as a new hub for job seekers and employers. Recent indications from an app researcher hinted that X was planning to enter the professional networking arena, taking on Microsoft’s LinkedIn by introducing job postings on its platform. Originally, when X was still Twitter, it was believed that the feature would allow verified organizations to integrate job listings from an Applicant Tracking System or XML feed directly into their Twitter profiles.

Now, it seems that X has turned that vision into reality. In a recent announcement, the company introduced the X Hiring feature in beta through its new @Hiring account. Verified organizations on X can now apply to join the beta program, making job postings more accessible on the platform.

Although the feature is currently in beta, job postings have already started appearing on some accounts. For example, Vercel, featured in the announcement, has begun showcasing job listings on its profile. This suggests that verified organizations participating in the beta program can immediately start posting job openings on the platform.

While X’s job posting feature may not offer the same depth and breadth as LinkedIn’s established offerings, it provides organizations with an additional avenue to advertise their job vacancies without resorting to repetitive posts. It also aligns with X’s larger ambitions to become an all-encompassing app, a vision driven by CEO Elon Musk.

As X endeavors to compete with LinkedIn in the job search arena, Threads, another X project, recently launched its web app. José Adorno offered a hands-on perspective of Threads for the web.
