Effortless Note-Taking: Notepad’s Automatic Session Saving Now a Reality

In a bid to enhance user experience, Microsoft is introducing updates to two beloved Windows features – Notepad and Snipping Tool. These updates promise to make everyday tasks easier and more efficient for users, ensuring a seamless and productive Windows experience.

Notepad’s Session State Saver:

Notepad, a reliable tool for jotting down notes and drafting text, is about to become even more user-friendly. With the introduction of the automatic session-saving feature, you can now write without the constant worry of saving your work. After these updates, when you type in Notepad, your content will be saved automatically. Gone are the days of intrusive warning dialog boxes when you close Notepad without saving – your content will be preserved for you.

Now, you can close Notepad after composing your notes or text, knowing that your work is safely stored. When you return to Notepad later, it will seamlessly restore your previously open tabs and unsaved content. You have the flexibility to either discard unsaved changes or continue working from where you left off. For those who prefer a clean slate every time they open Notepad, the option to disable automatic session saving is available in the app settings.

Snipping Tool’s Combined Capture Bar:

The Snipping Tool is a versatile tool used for capturing screenshots, editing images, and saving them for various purposes. In this update, Microsoft is streamlining the user experience by combining screen capture and screen recording capabilities into a single capture bar. This enhancement allows you to effortlessly switch between capturing screenshots and recording your screen without the need to navigate through menus.

To access the capture bar, you can use the familiar Print Screen key or the Win + Shift + S keyboard shortcut. Similarly, for screen recording, simply press Win + Shift + R to open the capture bar. This integration simplifies the process and makes capturing and recording your screen more intuitive.

Improved Screen Recording Experience:

Based on valuable user feedback, Microsoft is further enhancing the screen recording feature. With this update, you’ll have the option to record your PC’s audio and add voiceovers using a microphone. The app’s settings will enable you to configure default audio recording preferences for your screen recordings. If you have multiple audio recording devices, you can conveniently select your preferred device before starting a recording session.

Bug Fixes and Enhancements:

In addition to these major updates, Microsoft is addressing the “Select an app to open this ‘ms-screenclip’ link” error. Users encountering this error can now simply select “Snipping Tool” as the designated app to resolve the issue.

These updates for Notepad and Snipping Tool will be rolled out with version 11.2307.22.0 and version 11.2307.44.0, respectively. Currently, they are available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels on Windows 11.

As Microsoft continues to refine and enhance its suite of Windows tools, users can look forward to a more streamlined and productive computing experience.
