CelcomDigi and U Mobile Join Forces to Boost Connectivity: 100 MOCN Sites and 5G Innovations Unveiled

In a strategic move to bolster mobile connectivity across Malaysia, leading operators CelcomDigi and U Mobile have inked a partnership agreement, sharing a total of 100 Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) sites. Each operator commits to 50 sites, capitalizing on the industry practice of sharing network infrastructure to expand their respective 4G LTE coverage. The collaboration, sealed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, aims to provide an improved connectivity experience for customers without incurring significant operational costs.

Key Highlights of the Partnership:

The partnership between CelcomDigi and U Mobile is designed to enhance connectivity efficiency, allowing both telcos to elevate their customers’ experience without a substantial increase in operational expenditure. The initiative fosters greater network optimization, sharing deployment, maintenance, and energy costs, resulting in improved spectrum usage and network capacity.

CelcomDigi expressed its commitment to leveraging the strong legacy in infrastructure sharing, emphasizing the anticipated benefits for delivering enhanced 4G LTE coverage and connectivity to all Malaysians. U Mobile echoed this sentiment, highlighting the efficiency of sharing MOCN sites and the positive impact on operational costs.

Tripartite Collaboration: CelcomDigi, U Mobile, and ZTE:

In a separate development, CelcomDigi, U Mobile, and ZTE entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to showcase the capabilities of 5G Advanced (5G-A) technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital solutions for real-time live broadcasting. This collaboration encompasses 5G field trials in Sarawak, utilizing technologies such as Automatic Antenna Pattern Control (AAPC), AAU Hibernation, mmWave, Dynamic Frame Scheduling (DIS Solution), and Fusion Assisting Super TDD (FAST Solution) to achieve faster 5G speeds and improved network management.

U Mobile’s Collaborations with ZTE and Huawei:

Apart from the collaboration with ZTE, U Mobile further solidified its commitment to advancing 5G technologies by signing a deal with Huawei. This partnership focuses on accelerating 5G adoption for businesses through innovation in technology and the implementation of 5G-to-Business (5G-to-B) solutions. U Mobile seeks to leverage Huawei’s global expertise to complement its local knowledge, facilitating the swift adoption of 5G for businesses in Malaysia.

As these collaborations unfold, Malaysia anticipates a transformative era in mobile connectivity, combining the strength of industry partnerships, infrastructure sharing, and cutting-edge 5G technologies.
