Beeper Mini, the service that enables Android users to access Apple’s iMessage, faced a temporary setback after Apple blocked its services, citing privacy and security concerns. Launched on December 5, the service aimed to facilitate communication between Android and iPhone users for a monthly fee. In response to Apple’s actions, Beeper has now announced the restoration of its services with notable changes to address the privacy and security issues raised by Apple.
In a recent blog post on Monday, December 11, Beeper informed users that services are now accessible again. However, to use Beeper Mini, users will need to log in using their Apple ID since phone number registration is currently unavailable. The platform explained that it has deregistered all phone numbers, and messages will be sent and received via the email address associated with the user’s Apple ID.
Due to the disruptions caused by the service inconsistency, Beeper has decided to offer Beeper Mini for free temporarily. The team stated that once stability is achieved, they plan to return to the subscription mode. The service initially launched with a monthly fee of $1.99 (approximately Rs. 160). The updated version is now available for download on the Google Play Store. Users encountering issues with two-factor authentication during login are advised to uninstall and reinstall the application.
In response to Apple’s allegations of security concerns, Beeper refuted the claims in the blog post. The company asserted that its services are local, end-to-end encrypted, and expressed willingness to share the entire source code for security evaluation with mutually agreed-upon third parties, pending Apple’s agreement.
Despite the recent challenges, Beeper Mini continues to work towards providing a seamless cross-platform messaging experience between Android and iPhone users.
