Apple Faces Challenges with Vision Pro Production, Potential Cancellation of Low-Cost Model

Apple’s highly anticipated Vision Pro, a part of its foray into the world of spatial computing, may encounter production challenges as shipments are expected to fall short of market expectations, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, a prominent Apple insider. In addition to this setback, Kuo suggests that Apple could potentially cancel the rumored low-cost entry-level model initially planned for a 2025 release.

In a recent blog post, Kuo cited estimates from certain components suppliers regarding their maximum production capacity, revealing that Vision Pro shipments for the year 2024 are likely to range between 400,000 and 600,000 units. This falls significantly short of the market’s anticipation, which had expected over 1 million units.

Despite Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, affirming that the Vision Pro remains on track for an early 2024 launch, the availability of the device may be limited, even within the United States.

Considering these challenges, Kuo speculates that Apple may have decided to abandon its plans for the low-cost Vision Pro version, initially slated for release in 2025. Kuo expresses caution, stating, “Unless Apple significantly reduces the price of Vision Pro, the anticipated significant shipment growth in Vision Pro shipments starting in 2025 may not materialize.”

Kuo also suggests that a second-generation Apple Vision Pro might not enter mass production until the first half of 2027 at the latest, hinting at a potential lack of hardware updates for the Vision Pro in the near future.

In conclusion, while Kuo believes that the Vision Pro will undoubtedly offer users an exceptional experience, he raises questions about the necessity of this product. He suggests that it may take longer than expected for the Vision Pro to become the next standout product in Apple’s lineup.
