Apple Expands Find My App Tracking Limit: Now Keep Tabs on 32 Items

In a recent update to its support page, Apple has unveiled an enhancement to the Find My app, allowing users to track a doubled number of items. Previously capped at 16 items, the new limit now allows tracking for up to 32 items, providing users with a more extensive and versatile tracking experience.

Apple’s Find My App: A Robust Tracking Solution

The Find My app by Apple leverages the extensive Apple ecosystem, utilizing billions of connected devices such as iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches to help users locate and track items seamlessly. Adding a device to the Find My app provides users with real-time location updates on a map within the app.

The recently confirmed increase in the tracking limit is a testament to Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience and adapting to the evolving landscape of its product lineup.

Find My Network: The Technological Backbone

The Find My network relies on an expansive network of active Apple devices, incorporating iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and more. This encrypted network utilizes secure Bluetooth technology to relay approximate locations of nearby devices, making it possible to locate lost items even when they are not connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi.

Apple’s support page clarifies that each unit of any item, regardless of its generation, is counted as one item. For instance, AirPods 3rd Gen is considered one item, while AirPods Max and AirPods Pro each count as two items. This clarity ensures users can effectively manage their tracking allocations.

Third-Party Access: Expanding Compatibility

In addition to Apple’s proprietary items, users can include third-party Find My supported accessories in their tracking list. This includes products like VenMoof’s S3 and X3 e-bikes, Belkin’s SOUNDFORM Freedom True Wireless Earbuds, and Chipolo ONE Spot Item finder.

Welcoming Apple’s Move to Double Tracking Capabilities

While the previous limit of 16 items may not have been a point of contention, Apple’s decision to double the tracking capability to 32 items aligns with the company’s dedication to providing users with ample flexibility. With an ever-expanding Apple product lineup, this increase ensures users can effortlessly manage and track their belongings.
