Bharti Airtel has once again taken a leap in the connectivity landscape by introducing Airtel 5G Plus services in Lakshadweep, enhancing the digital experience for tourists in Agatti and Kavaratti. As the archipelago basks in the sun with its scenic beaches and lush green landscapes, Airtel ensures seamless high-speed connectivity for users with 5G smartphones or devices.
Island Connectivity Marvel: In October 2023, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) reported the addition of two 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in Lakshadweep, marking a significant milestone in the island’s connectivity journey. While some islands already had basic mobile connectivity, Airtel’s initiative brings Lakshadweep to the forefront as the first 5G-connected destination.
Airtel’s Legacy in Lakshadweep: Airtel, known for pioneering connectivity solutions, previously launched its 4G network in Lakshadweep in June 2019. Agatti, Bangaram, and Kavaratti islands experienced the benefits of Airtel’s 4G network, aligning with the Government’s Digital India vision. Airtel’s entry into Lakshadweep dates back to April 2008 when it became the first private service provider to introduce mobile services in the region.
Beyond Lakshadweep: In a recent update, Airtel celebrated another milestone by connecting the Zanskar Valley in the Kargil district with Airtel 5G Plus, solidifying its position as the exclusive operator offering 5G services in the picturesque Zanskar Valley. Airtel users on Unlimited 5G plans can continue to enjoy Unlimited 5G until further announcements.
