In a surprising revelation, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, has unveiled his unconventional approach to watching YouTube videos. Known for his busy schedule and leadership role at one of the tech giants, Pichai shared his viewing habits in response to a poll by popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD).
According to Pichai, he typically opts for the standard 1x playback speed for content he enjoys or needs to process deeply. However, for other videos, he embraces faster options. In a post on X, Pichai mentioned, “Very curious to see, I normally do 1x for things I enjoy and/or need to process deeply but otherwise do go faster,” while referencing Brownlee’s poll about users’ preferred playback speeds.
For those unfamiliar, YouTube offers a range of playback speeds, including 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and even 2x speed. The choice of playback speed often depends on individual preferences and the nature of the content being consumed.
YouTube itself has previously disclosed that users watching content on larger screens, such as TVs and gaming consoles, tend to stick to the standard 1x speed. Conversely, on mobile devices, viewers commonly opt for faster speeds, with 2x and 1.5x being the most popular choices. This observation aligns with the notion that mobile users are often on the go or in a hurry, while those watching on larger screens may be in a more relaxed setting.
Pichai’s disclosure provides a glimpse into the diverse ways individuals consume online content, reflecting the flexibility offered by platforms like YouTube to cater to varied viewing preferences.
