Team India is gearing up for an exciting cricketing event as they participate in the Asia Cup 2023, which is set to take place in Sri Lanka. Due to security concerns, the tournament will be held in a Hybrid format instead of the initially planned single host format, with all of India’s matches scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka.
India’s campaign will kick off with a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 at a venue in Kandy. Following this, on September 4, Team India will take on Nepal at the same venue.
The format of the tournament allows for a Super 4 stage, where the top teams from each group will compete for a spot in the final. If India qualifies for the Super 4 stage, they will play their remaining matches at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
In the Super 4 stage, India will face Pakistan once again on September 10 in Colombo. Additionally, they will take on the top two teams from Group B, which comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The specific teams India will face in the Super 4 will depend on their progression from the first round.
For the Super 4 teams, the rankings from the group stage will determine their positions. If India tops Group A, they will still be designated as A2, while Pakistan will hold the A1 spot if they qualify. If Nepal qualifies from Group A, they will take the spot of either India or Pakistan, depending on their position in the table.
Similarly, in Group B, Sri Lanka will be designated as B1, and Bangladesh will be B2 if both teams progress to the Super 4, regardless of their final positions in the group stage. If Afghanistan outperforms them, they will take the spot of the weakest performing team in the group.
