In a historic achievement, Shoaib Bashir, the 20-year-old English spinner, has etched his name in cricketing annals by becoming the first English bowler to claim multiple 5-wicket hauls in Test cricket before reaching the age of 21. This milestone was reached during the fifth Test against India in Dharamsala, where Bashir’s exceptional bowling performance played a pivotal role in England’s campaign.

On the third day of the Test match, Bashir showcased his prowess by taking the crucial wicket of Jasprit Bumrah, concluding with figures of 46.1-5-173-5. His exceptional skills were also on display on the second day when he dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhruv Jurel.

This remarkable performance not only contributed to England bowling out India for 477 in their first innings but also positioned Bashir as one of the six spinners for England to achieve multiple 5-wicket hauls in Tests against India.

Bashir’s journey to this historic feat began in the fourth Test at the JSCA International Complex in Ranchi, where he became the second-youngest English bowler to secure a 5-wicket haul in Tests. His record-breaking achievement came at the age of 20 years and 133 days, overshadowing Rehan Ahmed, who previously held the record at 18 years and 126 days.

In his budding career of three Tests, Bashir has amassed 17 wickets at an average of 33.50. Despite facing health challenges, Bashir’s dedication and skill on the field have garnered praise from England’s bowling coach Jeetan Patel.

As Shoaib Bashir continues to carve his path in Test cricket, his historic milestones are sure to be celebrated by cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
