Paris Olympic Games Qualifiers: Cameroon Ready to Face Uganda with Confidence

Njeru (Uganda): The head coach of Cameroon’s women’s national team is sending a strong message to hosts Uganda in the lead-up to a crucial Paris Olympic Games qualifying match. The stage is set, and Uganda is gearing up to welcome the formidable Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon for the first leg of the second round qualifiers. The match will take place at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, located in the Central Region of Uganda on Thursday.

Cameroon’s head coach, Jean Baptiste Bisseck, is resolute in his team’s determination to secure a victory. In an interview with Xinhua, he emphasized their strategy to win on Ugandan soil to ease their path in the second leg of the qualifiers.

“We want to win away from home so that we make our work easier when we host the second leg,” added Bisseck.

Bisseck highlighted the importance of not underestimating the Ugandan team, acknowledging the comfort advantage that a home ground often provides. He stressed the need for his team to be aggressive right from the start, aiming to secure early goals in the match.

On the other side of the field, Uganda Crested Cranes’ interim coach, Charles Ayiekoh Lukula, expressed confidence in his team’s level of preparedness.

“I know Cameroon is a higher-ranked team because they have been involved in several international matches over the years. But my team is well prepared to get a good result,” he added.

Cameroon’s advancement to the second round was facilitated by a bye, owing to their high ranking among African teams. In contrast, Uganda earned their spot in the second round by defeating Rwanda in the first round of qualifiers.

Additionally, Tanzania and Ethiopia, representing the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA), are continuing their journey in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifiers.

The stakes are high in these qualifiers, as the top two teams will earn the honor of representing the African continent at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in France.
