Maharashtra Clinches Gold in Miniorange ITF Mixed Relay National Triathlon Championships 2023

Pune, August 17, 2023: Maharashtra emerged as the triumphant victor in the mixed team relay event at the prestigious Miniorange ITF National Triathlon Championships 2023. The event, held under the auspices of the Indian Triathlon Federation and organized by the Maharashtra Triathlon Association, took place at the Shree Shivchatrapati Kreeda Sankul, Mahalunge Balewadi, Pune on August 17.

The championship saw participation from 14 states, with each athlete of the 4-member team required to complete a swim of 250 meters, a cycling leg of 6.2 kilometers, and a concluding run of 2.4 kilometers.

The Maharashtra team asserted its dominance right from the beginning, securing the coveted Gold medal. Impressively, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat orchestrated remarkable comebacks to clinch the Silver and Bronze medals, respectively, after starting from the 8th and 10th positions.

The technical complexity of the bike course, coupled with inclement weather conditions, tested the mettle of the participating athletes. The course, comprising 9 turns and 3 u-turns, kept the spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the race.

The honors were presented by distinguished personalities including Mr. Dayanand Kumar, President of the Maharashtra Triathlon Association, Mr. Rajendran Nimbalte, Secretary of the Maharashtra Triathlon Association, and Mr. Prabhat Sharma, Technical Delegate.

Mr. Harish Prasad, Development Officer of the Indian Triathlon Federation, highlighted the allure of the Mixed Relay format in triathlon. He applauded the prowess of Indian triathletes in short-distance events and expressed satisfaction in witnessing the country’s top athletes competing together. Notably, the event featured the participation of four athletes who recently competed in the Commonwealth Youth Games, along with six athletes who are gearing up for the Asian 2023.

The championship results for the top three positions in the Mixed Relay Team event are as follows:

  1. Maharashtra Team (Kaushik Malandkar, Sanjana Joshi, Parth Mirage, Mansi Mohite) – Total Time: 1 hour 48 minutes and 10 seconds.
  2. Tamil Nadu Team (Akash Perumalsamy, Keerthi Sakthvel, Vaman Sakthvel, Aarthi S) – Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes and 10 seconds.
  3. Gujarat Team (Nitai Randeria, Heny Zalavadiya, Krishiv Patel, Pragnya Mohan) – Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes and 21 seconds.

The Miniorange ITF National Triathlon Championships 2023 served as a platform to showcase the exceptional talents and perseverance of India’s triathletes, solidifying the nation’s presence in the realm of competitive sports.
