Despite heading into the auction with a modest purse of 13.15 crores, LSG, one of the two new franchises that joined the IPL in 2022, showcased their shrewd decision-making.
The major shakeup for LSG came in the coaching department, with Gautam Gambhir stepping down and Justin Langer assuming the role of the full-time head coach. The team’s leadership remains in the capable hands of KL Rahul, who has shown his mettle in leading the side over the past seasons.
One of the key trades involved acquiring the talented Devdutt Padikkal from Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Avesh Khan. This move bolstered the team’s batting arsenal, providing them with a promising young talent to complement their experienced players.
Retaining a solid core of both Indian and international players, LSG kept the likes of Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Mark Wood, Naveen Ul Haq, Nicholas Pooran, Quinton De Kock, and Ravi Bishnoi. The franchise bid farewell to players who did not feature regularly in the playing XI, including Arpit Guleria, Daniel Sams, Jaydev Unadkat, Karan Sharma, Karun Nair, Manan Vohra, Suryansh Shegde, and Swapnil Singh. The strategic releases indicate a focus on maintaining a cohesive and effective playing squad.
With two consecutive playoff appearances, LSG aims to go a step further and clinch the IPL title in the upcoming season. The anticipation builds as the franchise, under the guidance of head coach Justin Langer, looks to target key players during the auctions to bolster their chances.
